Ammar Saloum

Ammar Saloum is an M.D. candidate at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine (expected 2028). He earned a B.S. in Neuroscience from the University of Michigan and currently serves as a research assistant in the Departments of Neurosurgery at Sparrow Hospital and Henry Ford Health. His work centers on cerebrovascular and skull base neurosurgery. He is currently working with Dr. Brandon Lucke-Wold on a systematic review and meta-analysis of adjunctive therapeutic cooling in patients undergoing endovascular thrombectomy for large-vessel-occlusion stroke. He is also interested in the application of artificial intelligence, radiomics, and deep learning to neuroimaging, with published work spanning glioma imaging, blunt cerebrovascular injury, and pediatric arteriovenous malformations. He is a recipient of the Beilfuss and Guthrie/Sanborn Endowment awards for neuro-oncology research.

Ammar's contribution to the lab centers on cerebrovascular neurosurgery, with a focus on evidence synthesis and outcome prediction in acute stroke and hemorrhagic pathology. He is currently leading a systematic review and meta-analysis of adjunctive therapeutic cooling in patients undergoing endovascular thrombectomy for large-vessel-occlusion stroke, handling study screening, data extraction, statistical analysis, and manuscript preparation. He has also contributed to the lab's cerebrovascular literature through reviews on antiplatelet versus anticoagulant management in blunt cerebrovascular injury and the multimodal management of pediatric arteriovenous malformations. Going forward, he plans to extend this work toward imaging-based prediction of neurological outcomes in cerebrovascular disease, including the application of artificial intelligence and radiomics to neuroimaging.
