Dr. Zahra Hasanpour-Segherlou, MD

Dr. Zahra Hasanpour-Segherlou is a Preliminary General Surgery Resident at the University of Florida. She previously served as a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Florida, where her research focused on subarachnoid hemorrhage, cerebral vasospasm, neuroinflammation, and translational cerebrovascular neuroscience.

As the primary investigator of a $35,000 Brain Aneurysm Foundation Research Grant and recipient of the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery Joe Niekro Research Grant, Dr. Hasanpour has led innovative projects investigating novel therapeutic targets for aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. She also played a leading role in the execution of an NIH R01-funded research program studying adropin-mediated neuroprotection in experimental stroke and hemorrhage models under the mentorship of Dr. Brian Hoh (PI).

Her scholarly work includes 30+ peer-reviewed publications spanning cerebrovascular disease, traumatic brain injury, neurodegeneration, glioblastoma, and neurovascular therapeutics. She has presented her research at major international meetings, including the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) and the American Society for Neural Therapy & Repair (ASNTR).

In addition to her research accomplishments, Dr. Hasanpour is passionate about mentorship and academic collaboration, supporting trainees in neuroscience research and advancing translational approaches that bridge laboratory discoveries with clinical neurosurgery.
